Picking up the pieces, by Jasmine Joy

In December of 2009, I had the honor of visiting the skimboarding capital of the Philippines, Tanauan, Leyte, for their 6th National Skim Open.  I was invited by the Municipal Mayor, Roque A. Tiu, and welcomed by the whole town with open arms.  Since the event lasted for three days, I was able to initiate a Beach Cleanup two mornings in a row, free a captive sea turtle, and inspire my people to respect their environment.  The memories I shared and the friends I made during this trip will forever be special to me.

My heart dropped, on November 8th, the moment I heard of Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) hitting the province of Leyte the worst.  I thought of all of my friends and right away prayed for their safety.  I thought of Bantay Dagat, the beach we cleaned up and played on.  I thought of how powerful Mother Nature is.  I thought of raising money to help my people restore their community.  Please click on the link below to donate to my campaign which will aid the town and people of Tanauan.
