“I took a red eye out of LAX around midnight on Monday night/Tuesday morning, landing around 9am ET. Wyatt didn’t arrive until Wednesday, so I took the extra day exploring Philadelphia, checking out downtown and Love Park…
Once Wyatt got in Wednesday morning, we took off from Philly and headed towards Dewey. On our drive, we encountered some heavy rain where we couldn’t see 5 feet in front of us, however the weather outside was 90 degrees and 100% humidity. We checked into our hotel, and met up with Jason Wilson, Toeknee Bianchi, Ed Hayden, Max Smetts, and a few others who took us to a few spots: Naval Jetty and Southside Inlet. Nothing with much size, mostly knee high, with some waist high liners every 10 minutes or so. There are gnarly green bugs called Green Heads, which are like giant flies that bite you. Wyatt had an awesome time trying to escape their wrath. Our diet has consisted of cheese steaks, pizza, and hoagie sandwhiches, and plenty of water. Dewey Beach is an awesome town about a mile long with water on both sides, reminding me of Balboa Peninsula in a way. The skimboarding scene seems to be pretty big here, as I notice Alley Oop and Zap attire everywhere. The lady at the sandwhich shop even wore a shirt from the Zap Contest 5 years ago, so it’s nice to see the support of our sport. There are even billboards advertising the “32 Annual Zap World AM’s” at least 4 times throughout the main drag. Everybody has been very welcoming, exchanging phone numbers and inviting us to hang out. Overall, the time here so far is one to remember. We have the contest coming up tomorrow, so we’ll update you with some more photos and more news.
