Bob Phillips few days before the heart transplant
Last week Bob Phillips finally got that heart he was waiting for. It was an 8.5 hour surgery, and it can run up to 14 hours. So things went well in surgery is my guess.
Unbelievable, amazing, and miraculous are the most often heard words about it. This Sunday he was sitting up, but struggling with the after effects of his massive surgery. He had even been walking the day before that. Every day will see big improvements, but meanwhile he has to suffer through a very painful recovery and challenging immunosupressing drug regime.
He should be a few more days or a week in intensive care, then he can slide into a less hectic hospital room. Amazing doctors up there at USC Keck Medical Center, and great staff. Thank you for saving our man Bob. And thank you, thank you whoever out there donated his body to save others.
