The VIC 2019 is here.

Low tides will be early in the morning, so Pros should expect to go first thing on Saturday. And since the swell is dropping, they may choose to go all the way in one day.Saturday we start with the youngest age division, so be there early. We will work up thru the age groups through out the day, interrupted by the Pros when they go.

Sunday the progression reverses, to oldest in the morning, going to the youngest at the end of the day. Our future is the finale as we like to say! Then awards, and an after-party on the beach, bring your own refreshments and guitars. Hopefully we will have the first fire ring next to the Lost Pier Cafe.

Important changes for this year include Live Scoring, but that comes at the cost of our Left/Right Rule.  So this year we will not have Lefts and Rights as part of the criteria. We may not use live scoring for the 4 man heats, we are not sure. But no left/right  either way.

The interference rules will be strictly enforced. Loss of your highest scoring ride is the penalty for jumping in front of another rider who has priority. Don’t worry, everyone will be very aware of who has priority and it will be easy to understand. There will be a person calling out or signaling who has priority.

ALL FINALS WILL BE ON SUNDAY.

Here are the basics:

• 5 is an average score for an average wave in any one age group.
• If you fail to complete the maneuver, you will get no more than a 5 for even the gnarliest attempts, with the slightest of incompletions.
• We score on a scale of 1- 10.
• Wave count is very important. Talk amongst yourselves to make sure you have not missed a wave. Find out what you missed and give him/her a score based on your fellow judges score.
• Each wave gets it’s own line on the scoresheet.
• Minimize talking amongst judges.
• Know the cut off penalty, mark any questionable rides, and discuss after the heat. Head judge is the final arbiter.
• Wave belongs to the first rider to clearly maneuver into position, or signal his intentions verbally or otherwise, assuming the rider has priority.

Scoring is based on

1. Completion of the ride
2. Difficulty of the maneuver
3. Size of the wave
4. Length of the ride
5. Variety of maneuvers
6. Style and control  – Otherwise known as: The skimboarder who completes the most radical, controlled maneuvers in the most critical section of the biggest or best wave for the longest functional distance, shall be deemed the winner.
