It is an absolute honor to have you as a part of our team and we look forward to watching your progression over the future years.
Chabe: Vic!
I am very grateful to represent the board brand of my dreams, and grow together. I am also happy to have known the team more closely and to have been able to demonstrate my level and now to be here telling my aspirations is a great personal improvement. Thank you for the opportunity.
1) When did you start skimboarding and what inspired you to start?
I started to skim when I was 12 years old. My older brother made his own wood board back then and he started practicing, so I decide to steal his board once in a while to try it on the beach. He was my inspiration, he always motivated me to keep practicing and to start competing, since then until now
2) What is it like being a professional Skimboarder from Mazunte, Mexico?
I feel really grateful to be born and raised in such a small town as Mazunte, Mexico. The connection with the nature is the best way to grow. It’s a small town community that feels like a big family. It is an honor to represent my town.
3) Where would you like to see skimboarding in the next few years?
In a few years I would like to see skimboarding as an attainable sport for those who want to start practicing it, and for those who already practice it, that the world leagues become WORLDWIDE. That all active countries are involved in selecting the best rider and that the best riders have better opportunities to live and keep doing what they love
4) Do you have any personal goals as a rider that you are focusing on at the moment?
My goal as a rider is that I would like to see more women practicing skim. My way of motivating is by showing my level, going to competitions, traveling and sharing new examples with whoever is starting. I want to show the World that a lot of practice can lead you to goals that once seemed like a dream.
5) Who are some of your favorite riders and why?
Some of my favorite riders are: Paulo Prieto for his fluidity and style. And the Valencia brothers are a great example of perseverance and talent that marked a lot in my life by sharing waves with them and watching them grow
6) Aside from skimboarding, do you do any other preparation/training to assist your riding?
Since my last injury, I have implemented strength and mobility exercises, lots of stretching and balance boarding.
7) Where is your dream location to skim?
A good empty day at aliso beach with the sider working just for me
8) What Is your favorite trick to do on a skimboard/Are you working on anything new you would like to have in your trick bag?
I love working on my airs, changing grabs and seeing how they look
9) Do you have any rituals you like to do before a heat? (For example: listen to music, meditate, etc.)
Before my heats I always try to do a breathing technique to get into adrenaline mode
10) Without giving any secrets away.. Do you have any tactics that you like to focus on in your heat?
When I am competing, I avoid seeing the public behind me. I focus on the waves I have and try to make the best of them. I don’t have a very clear strategy, but I always try to put myself at the level of my opponent and from there, surprise myself.
