We start the year down in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. In potentially some of the biggest competitive skimboarding conditions in history. It’s been three years since the Victoria Professional Men’s team has had an appearance in the Top 10 of the UST, let alone a major impact. Mostly due to covid, life changes, and career paths potentially pulling them away from making a presence at these stops. Since the end of the 2024 season, VIC took the time to reflect and implement some changes to strengthen their presence on the UST tour. We signed none other than Zac Henderson @zac_henderdank who has made a huge impact on the Pro tour over the past few years. As well as holds a lot of skim history in his name, being the son of skim legend Chris “Hende” Henderson. “Where is Johnny Weber?” You ask? Well he’s back in Laguna fired up and hungry as ever to be in the mix of the top skim talent in the world. Chance Boyer ended up completing his 2024 season with a top 8 finish at the final stop of the UST Oktoberfest contest. Chance is always looking for the biggest and best conditions he can skim for. We trust in his drive to make a strong appearance on the tour. Ashley Poshard a recent Cal Poly Slo graduate has her schedule and mind clear to draw a major impact in the field of Professional Women’s skimboarding. Myself, Johnny Salta, who luckily is not sucked into any kind of wedding tour this year, can make an appearance at most of the upcoming events. And last but not least, holding it down in the Amateur division, Nathan Sandberg. So there you have it, our Victoria Team riders that were present in Cabo.
SOME OF THE BIGGEST COMPETITIVE CONDITIONS IN HISTORY
Day 1 of the event began with a Professional Men’s seeding round which then lead into round 2. Round 2 consisted of eleven four man heats. One of the biggest amount of entries the Cabo stop has taken in. Weber and Zac climbed their way into a quarter final heat against each other with some of the standout rides of the event along the way. In a tight battle, Zac ended with the advantage and put Team Victoria in the top 4 of the UST. Depending on who you talk to, Zac may have even deserved a spot in the final with a very tight heat against Gerardo Valencia. Unfortunately, Zac took a slam at the end of his last ride in the Semi-Final, which caused a pretty serious knee injury. We are wishing for a speedy recovery and know that even if he must miss Sununga, he luckily has about three months until the third stop of the UST in OBX for recovery. The Cabo event was technically not a tour stop to earn points for the Professional Women’s category, however, Ashley Poshard put herself to the challenge and her bravery earned herself a first place finish!
WEBER AND ZAC CLIMBED THEIR WAY INTO A QUARTER FINAL HEAT
Stay tuned for Stop #2 of The UST, taking place in every Skimboarders dream location Sununga, Brazil. Our roster grows with some of the best talent in both the Male and Female category. Also the first stop that counts for the Professional Women’s category. We are expecting to add riders such as locals Julia Diaz and recently signed Daniel Alvez. The veterans of our team like Jon Howell and Amber Torrealba. This season should end up being one of the most stacked and exciting contest seasons in quite some time. And we are beyond stoked to be able to say we are starting our season with 2 riders placed in the top ten of the UST!!!
